This change reflects a trend toward travel that is simpler to organise and repeat, enabling travel to accommodate personal, professional, and academic obligations.

According to a recent survey, there has been a significant change in the way Indian Gen Z travels, with younger travellers preferring shorter, more frequent journeys focused on experiences over protracted family vacations. According to Agoda’s 2026 Travel Outlook Report, Gen Z travellers in India are becoming more independent.

Flexibility, accessibility, and convenience are becoming more and more popular, according to the survey. 84% of Indian Gen Z respondents said they would travel one to six times a year, with 72% opting for shorter stays of one to seven days.

There is a noticeable shift away from family-led travel, with about 57% of respondents choosing to travel with partners and 22% choosing to travel alone.

Travel Patterns Are Redefined by Frequent, Short Trips
This change reflects a trend toward travel that is simpler to organise and repeat, enabling travel to accommodate personal, professional, and academic obligations. India and economies like Thailand and Vietnam exhibit a greater propensity for regular travel, demonstrating how travel is evolving from being a seasonal activity to a continuous lifestyle choice.

Destinations Are Not as Important as Experiences
Travel selections are increasingly being influenced by what a location has to offer. While 36% of Indian Gen Z tourists seek out outdoor activities, more than half (56%) prefer cultural exploration. At the same time, 72% of travellers consider relaxation to be a crucial component of their vacation itineraries.

This suggests a more thoughtful approach to travel, where locations are chosen not just for their popularity but also for the experiences they provide. Whether it’s cultural immersion, outdoor activities, or just a change of pace, Gen Z travellers make travel plans based on their desired outcomes.

When making travel plans, Generation Z prioritises experiences and flexibility.
According to Gaurav Malik, Country Director, India Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, travel is becoming a more frequent aspect of life for Gen Z in India. He pointed out that the younger age is making more thoughtful travel plans, emphasising adaptability and experiences that fit individual interests.

“Travelling is becoming less of an occasional pastime and more of a regular element of the lifestyle for Gen Z in India. This generation’s deliberate approach to trip planning, which prioritises experiences that suit their interests and flexibility, is noteworthy. “At Agoda, we are committed to supporting this changing behaviour by providing a broad range of options for flights, lodging, and activities, making it easier for Gen Z to plan trips that fit seamlessly into their schedules and preferences while continuing to access great value,” he stated.
