A story from back in May stated that Apple was nearing the end of development for its camera-equipped AirPods. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has now provided some new information and a revised launch schedule for the earbuds.
The AirPods with built-in cameras are now anticipated to launch in late 2027, according to Gurman, who cited sources with knowledge of the situation. According to reports, the earphones will be released alongside the special 20th anniversary iPhone and Apple’s second-generation foldable iPhone.
Gurman mentioned in the previous report that Apple would postpone the “AirPods Ultra” if it wasn’t happy with the AI experience. The camera-equipped earbuds were anticipated to be released this year at the time.
Additionally, according to Gurman, the future AirPods will include exterior indicator lights on the stems that would alert those in the vicinity whenever data is being transmitted to the cloud.
Siri AI is supposedly better able to comprehend the user’s environment and provide more context-aware responses thanks to the integrated cameras. This is what Apple refers to as Visual Intelligence. The article claims that Apple is also investigating camera-powered features like “contextual reminders and turn-by-turn walking directions.”
