Following the Center’s approval and awarding of the contract for the runway expansion at Shillong Airport, Meghalaya will see a significant improvement in connectivity. On May 6, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma made the announcement.
It is anticipated that the runway expansion project will facilitate the landing of larger aircraft in Shillong and enhance regional aviation connections. The renovation, according to officials, will facilitate travel to the hill state for residents, visitors, and business travellers.
The airport project is viewed by the Meghalaya government as a significant step toward bolstering the state’s tourism sector. Increased visitor arrivals and easier access to prominent locations throughout the state, such as picturesque hills, waterfalls, and cultural sites, are anticipated as a result of improved flight connectivity.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma claims that the project is an example of the state and federal governments’ ongoing collaboration to upgrade Northeastern infrastructure. By assisting companies involved in trade, hospitality, and tourism, the expansion is also anticipated to boost economic growth.
In recent years, Meghalaya has made tourism a major priority, with the government encouraging ecotourism, adventure travel, and cultural tourism. The state’s standing as a rising travel destination in Northeast India is probably going to be further strengthened by improved airport facilities.
