Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8 are 30% higher globally than they were a year ago, according to Samsung. The proportion stands alone as a comparison with the seventh-generation devices rather than as a measure of magnitude because the business has not released absolute data for the global total.
The Indian figures are more precise. Over 271,000 pre-orders were placed in the 72 hours after the July 22 launch, according to Samsung. According to its own account, it took the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 15 days to reach a similar number the previous year. Similar to the global claim, the information is provided by the business and has not been independently confirmed.
Pink was the most popular color on the Flip8, whereas graphite was the most popular color for both Fold8 versions worldwide.
With this generation, Samsung is making a broader argument about segmentation. The lineup now consists of three proposals instead of a single foldable with a smaller brother.
Samsung claims that the Galaxy Z Fold8 is the thinnest and lightest Fold it has ever made, weighing 201g, making it the lighter of the two book-style devices. The 4:3 inner display is geared toward reading, gaming, and prolonged viewing, while the cover screen manages messaging, browsing, and short-form video. Samsung has launched what it refers to as Flex Titanium, a structural modification meant to maintain the panel’s thinness while lessening the visibility of the crease as it ages. This promise regarding long-term wear will only be tested over time. Included is Gemini Notebook, which combines documents, photographs, sounds, and notes into a single workspace.
For the first time, the Ultra insignia is extended to foldables with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. It features a 200MP primary camera with HDR capture capabilities, an 8-inch main display, and a new 50MP ultra-wide camera with macro capabilities. There is a bigger graphite cooling layer, 45W charging, and a 5,000mAh battery. According to Samsung, the weight is 215g and the unfolded thickness is 4.1mm. Based on what the user is doing, a software feature called Nudge now recommends follow-up activities across supported apps.
Leaning on its cover screen is the Galaxy Z Flip8. Apps, alerts, and assistant features are now immediately included in the FlexWindow, and Gemini may be accessed by voice or side key. These days, Brief presents data according to the user’s calendar and habits. The 50MP camera is equipped with the FlexCam angle characteristics and Samsung’s ProVisual Engine.
All three phones have features like My FanCam2, which tracks and reframes a selected subject, and Dual Recording, which simultaneously records the front and back cameras.
In addition to the hardware, Samsung has launched an industry-first 30-month free EMI option with no down payment in India. For the Indian market, this is the more significant announcement. Stretching payments over two and a half years significantly lowers the monthly outlay; a Fold8 Ultra at Rs 1,99,999 works out to around Rs 6,667 per month over the full term. Foldables are still a premium-priced category.
Depending on the buyer, that could be better value or just a longer commitment. Extended interest-free plans lock the buyer into a payment plan that lasts longer than the usual flagship phone upgrade cycle and reduce the apparent barrier to entry without altering the overall cost. It is also a plausible sign that Samsung believes the primary barrier to foldables outpacing early users in India is price rather than interest.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is available in Violet Shadow, Graphite, Cream, and Green Shadow, with a starting price of Rs 1,99,999. The starting price of the Galaxy Z Fold8 in Lavender, Graphite, Cream, and Pistachio is Rs 1,79,999. Pink, Graphite, Cream, and Mint versions of the Galaxy Z Flip8 retail for Rs 1,24,999.
