Dramatic, Desi, and very definitely not simple
Genelia Deshmukh is an expert at playing the appropriate notes when it comes to bringing back tradition without making it seem out of date. This time, she decided to pay homage to her Marathi ancestry by draping a gorgeous nine-yard saree that was founded in ethnic identity and made it feel modern, stylish, and unquestionably romantic.
Power dressing meets pink nostalgia
Genelia was dressed in a delicate pink Nauvari saree by Shreya Deshmukh’s Ryree. The elaborate Himroo weaving, a traditional technique renowned for its opulent texture and fineness, gave the drape a regal and thoughtful feel. She accessorised this drape with a lovely pink dupatta that was exquisitely embroidered in gold.
Traditional jewellery
She chose some items from Kankshini and leaned toward traditional pieces from Sanzany, Raabta by Rahul, and Jiza Jewellery Studio because no traditional Marathi look is complete without the appropriate jewels. She began with a stack of bangles, matching jhumka earrings, a green chandrakor bindi, piled heavy necklaces, rustic golden sandals from Aprajita Toor, and the famous Marathi nose ring.
Serving the energy of the royal Marathi
Genelia looked like royalty in this clean girl style thanks to Karisma Gulati’s styling and Jyoti and Audrey Sangma’s cosmetics. To avoid taking the show from the distinctive drape, she opted for a bright glowing base with defined eyes and eyebrows and a subtle lip tint. Rohn Pingalay expertly captured her wearing a traditional bun topped with fresh flowers to complete the ensemble.
When heritage strikes a different
Bollywood is largely in charge of the ongoing reinterpretation of the ethnic market. Despite being surrounded by people, Genelia’s appearance subtly sticks out for its self-assurance and understated ancestral charm without being overly dramatic. Her strong sense of roots is respected, and the styling serves as a perfect reminder that legacy doesn’t need to be reinvented—it just needs to be given the proper attention.
