The Indian government has alerted iPhone and Mac users of a critical WhatsApp spyware vulnerability that allows attackers to bypass device authorization and access data. WhatsApp has alerted many users to the spyware danger, which is related to complex and very sophisticated attacks.
The current cyber threat affects millions of iPhone and Mac users in the country and around the world. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, or CERT-In, issued an advisory detailing the threat and how it may harm people.
WhatsApp Spyware Risk: What the Government Says
The latest CERT-In notice has a high severity level, but it is difficult to overlook the gravity of the attacks, especially when they can occur remotely. “This vulnerability exists in WhatsApp because of incorrect authorization handling in linked device synchronization messages. According to the agency, an attacker may leverage this issue to activate the processing of content from an arbitrary URL on a victim’s device.
Unlike virus, which requires a source for infiltration, these advanced spyware only requires the user to click on a message or simply receive it on the device to bypass its security and be activated when the phone is used.
Spyware like Pegasus has become the new hub for cyber warfare, particularly on a platform that billions of people use every day to share messages, photographs, and even video conversations.
Anyone who uses WhatsApp on iOS or macOS devices is vulnerable to these assaults, however hackers typically target specific persons.
The following WhatsApp iOS and macOS versions are vulnerable to spyware:
WhatsApp for iOS versions previous to 2.25.21.73.
WhatsApp Business for iOS, version 2.25.21.78
WhatsApp for Mac, version 2.25.21.78
WhatsApp has released its own security advice, requesting that iOS and macOS users update their chat apps as soon as possible. You can alternatively do it as follows:
Go to the App Store.
Search for WhatsApp.
Look for fresh updates and install them on the device.
