The president stated on Wednesday that communication with Khamenei was “very difficult at the moment,” and suspicion has centered on the supreme leader’s health after he was apparently wounded in the strikes that killed his father.

According to Khamenei’s office, the two “discussed in detail the country’s issues and problems”, including the “current military situation and future prospects”.

Iran had been in talks with Washington to stop the war initiated by the US and Israel in February, but a tentative agreement fell apart, and its top diplomat has indicated talks are now confined to exchanging messages thru mediators.

On Sunday, Tasnim news agency quoted a Revolutionary Guards general as saying that photographs of Khamenei among the people and during meetings would be “published in the future,” but did not provide a date.
