Ajit Mohan says family ties drove his decision to leave Snap after four years as chief business officer
Ajit Mohan has stepped down as chief business officer of Snap after four years, ending his tenure at the Snapchat parent as it works to strengthen its advertising business and expand revenue.
Ronan Harris, who has led Snap’s Europe, Middle East and Africa business for nearly four years, will succeed him as chief commercial officer. Harris will oversee Snap’s global advertising sales and go-to-market operations.
Why Mohan left
Mohan said his decision to leave was personal and linked to his family.
In a LinkedIn post on Wednesday, he said his family had remained in Singapore while he spent the past two years commuting between New York, Los Angeles and Singapore, with occasional trips to London, Dubai and Bengaluru.
“My reason for leaving is simple and personal,” Mohan wrote. “I’m coming home.”.
Mohan said he may turn to writing, filmmaking or learning more about artificial intelligence next, but was first looking forward to spending more time with his family.
Rebuilding Snap’s advertising business
Mohan joined Snap in January 2023 as president of Asia-Pacific and later became chief business officer.
His main focus was rebuilding Snap’s advertising business. He said the company revamped its ads platform for performance, made direct-response advertising a bigger part of the business and worked to show advertisers that Snapchat could deliver measurable results.
The effort comes as Snap seeks to generate more advertising revenue from its growing user base.
Snap reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of about $1.6 billion, up 19 per cent from a year earlier. Monthly active users stood at 971 million.
Harris takes over
Harris joined Snap in 2022 to lead its EMEA operations after more than 17 years at Google, where he held senior advertising roles and eventually became vice president and managing director for the UK and Ireland.
Snap said Europe delivered 10 straight quarters of double-digit year-on-year revenue growth through the second quarter of 2026. Revenue from the region rose nearly 40 per cent in the first half of the year.
As chief commercial officer, Harris will now take charge of Snap’s global advertising sales and go-to-market operations.
