Newcastle, the reigning EFL League Cup champions, defeated Fulham 2-1 on Wednesday to advance to the tournament semifinals. Yoane Wissa and Lewis Miley scored goals for the Magpies.

In the tenth minute of the match, Wissa gave Eddie Howe’s team the lead, but six minutes later, Sasa Lukic cancelled it out. However, Miley’s header in stoppage time at St. James’ Park made sure the Toon Army advanced to the tournament’s last four.

Howe is excited for more after Newcastle won the League Cup last season, ending a 70-year wait to win a domestic trophy.

“It was crucial to recover from Sunderland and return in a constructive manner,” he stated.

“We want to compete and win trophies; we had a great experience last year, and we want to do that again.”

Eddie Howe’s team was under more pressure to improve after a lackluster performance in a 1-0 loss to local rivals Sunderland on Sunday.

After just ten minutes, Wissa scored his first goal for Newcastle in his first start. Sasa Lukic gave the visitors an early equalizer. Before Miley was able to touch Sandro Tonali’s alluring delivery, the game appeared to be headed for penalties.

Thanks to goals from Rayan Cherki and Savinho for Pep Guardiola’s team, Manchester City defeated Brentford 2-0 to guarantee their place in the EFL League Cup semifinals.

Savinho’s goal in the 67th minute completed the victory, while Cherki’s goal from outside the box gave City the lead in the 32nd.

Ahead of the hectic Premier League schedule, Guardiola made seven lineup changes and rested star scorer Erling Haaland as his squad won six straight games across all competitions.

Chelsea won 3-1 at Cardiff the day before to secure their spot in the two-leg semifinals early next year.
