For the first time in Australia’s ODI history, the visitors were reduced to 0/3 after losing their first three batting for ducks.
Australia’s batting order experienced a historic collapse in Dhaka on Thursday, further compounding their problems in the first ODI against Bangladesh. Australia was reduced to three wickets down without a score after Bangladesh’s pace attack tore through the top order. For the first time in Australia’s ODI history, the visitors were reduced to 0/3 after losing their first three batting for ducks. The hosts got off to an incredible start as their seamers took full advantage of the circumstances and immediately put pressure on Australia. With only four teams in the history of men’s ODIs falling to 0/3, the collapse also put Australia in an unwelcome record book. The Australians were left reeling and looking for solutions after Bangladesh’s incredible start.
Almost immediately after the Dhaka innings began, Australia started to crumble. Bangladesh got off to a fantastic start when Taskin Ahmed struck in the first over, dismissing Matthew Short with the fourth delivery. Mustafizur Rahman’s spectacular double-wicket maiden in the following over only increased the pressure. After only two overs, he left Australia reeling at 0/3 after dismissing Cooper Connolly with the opening ball of the over and sending Matt Renshaw back with the penultimate delivery. The visitors’ first run came from a no-ball on the second delivery of the innings since they were unable to get off to a fast start with the bat during that time.
In Dhaka, Australia’s choice to bat first backfired.
Josh Inglis, the captain of Australia, won the toss earlier and chose to bat first, but their choice proved advantageous.First, we’ll bat. We can make slight improvements to all three aspects of the game, but our goal is to get better. Liam Scott is replaced by Riley Meredith. At the toss, Inglis remarked, “Just a little faster for us.
Mehidy urged for better batting partnerships and confirmed one change to the XI, with seasoned all-rounder Soumya Sarkar taking Saif Hassan’s place. Mehidy backed his bowlers following their outstanding performance in the first game.
“It was an excellent first match and a great opportunity today (to win the series). We need more partnerships with the bat, the bowlers are doing well, and we need to build momentum. One change: Soumya Sarkar replaces Saif Hassan. It’s unfortunate for Saif, but Soumya is batting well in the last few matches and has the experience,” Mehidy said.
