The Zoho Arattai app is hoping to match WhatsApp’s strength by capitalizing on the made-in-India excitement. It quickly climbed the nation’s App Store charts and amassed millions of downloads. However, the messaging platform requires significant improvements, such as end-to-end encryption for messages, which is currently only available for voice and video calls.
However, Sridhar Vembu, the CEO of Zoho, has stated that the company is aiming to include E2E security for messages in the near future. Even though the Arattai app has more functionality than WhatsApp, it still has to be updated as soon as possible because it lacks E2E standards for talks.
What to Expect From Arattai’s End-To-End Chat Encryption
In recent weeks, Vembu has been active on social media, and he reaffirmed that Arattai will receive E2E standards for chats that will improve user privacy.
Vembu acknowledged that they (Arattai app) are using Signal’s Encryption Protocol, which is regularly audited, and that it is currently undergoing internal testing after one user on X even inquired about its use.
On the topic of privacy, there are three distinct cases I want to address:

1. The secret lover case
2. The violation we feel when a company uses our personal data to show ads to us
3. The secret rebel case
The secret lover case also applies to org trade secrets and…

As Zoho team mentioned that E2EE is coming to Arattai, one point is – Hopefully you use the Signal’s Encryption Protocol (which is already heavily audited)
Or anything that is already 3rd party audited.
Reinventing the wheel wouldn’t make sense here & increases…
Government representatives have aggressively promoted the Arattai app, positioning it as a WhatsApp substitute that is developed in India. However, as we noted in our comparison article earlier this month, the local platform still lacks functionality.
Although the app has a feature called Secret Chat, it is not a direct substitute for E2E security and is not activated by default, making your conversations open to interception.
The Zoho CEO also promised that the Arattai app will soon offer additional features like cloud sync access for contacts and the ability to store data locally on the phone or in the cloud.
Avoiding Ads Using Your Data
Vembu also made a significant pledge that Arattai would never share your data with any businesses or use it to display advertisements.
Thanks to Meta, WhatsApp has gradually started down the dreaded path, and by the end of 2025, all of the Meta AI data will be collected for the purpose of displaying advertisements on Instagram and other applications. The argument for apps like Arattai is so compelling, but they require more than just local (and governmental) backing to thrive with features that are dependable, secure, and helpful.
