Some BJP MPs criticized Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s bag, claiming she was attempting to curry favor with Muslims.
The BJP’s objection against Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over a bag bearing the word “Palestine” on it has been characterized as “typical patriarchy.” “Who will choose my attire going forward? Who will make that decision? That you also choose what women should wear is a classic patriarchal practice. I don’t agree with that. After being questioned about the bag that caused a huge commotion in Parliament yesterday, she informed the reporters, “I will wear what I want.”
“I have expressed my beliefs on this numerous times,” she added, holding up the bag. All of my remarks can be found on my Twitter handle.
Palestine was inscribed on the bag that the Wayanad MP brought to Parliament yesterday. A watermelon, a representation of support for Palestine, was also included. Following the Hamas attacks in October of last year, Ms. Gandhi Vadra has been outspoken in her opposition to Israel’s offensive against Palestine.
The Congress MP’s luggage caused some BJP MPs to express their disapproval while her followers cheered. “People do such things for news,” BJP Rajya Sabha MP Gulam Ali Khatana told news agency IANS. They turn to such measures after being shunned by the public.
Ms. Gandhi Vadra was accused of “appeasement” by Manoj Tiwari, the MP for North-East Delhi. “Appeasement is what Congress does. They don’t benefit the Muslim community in any way. In order to get votes, they employ several agendas. The nation’s citizens are now aware of this ploy.
According to Union Minister SP Singh Baghel, the Congress MP was attempting to increase the number of Muslim votes. “This isn’t a random occurrence. She’s attempting to communicate. If only she had an Indian bag, which is created in a number of places, such as Chennai, Kanpur, and Agra, and is distinctive for each area. The ‘Swadeshi’ product would definitely help that sector if she could use it. She is attempting to placate, please, and divide the Muslim votes by wearing a bag with the words Palestine printed on it,” he said.
After Sheik Hasina was overthrown, the first-time MP dismissed this criticism and stated that the Center should stop concentrating on “useless things” and instead take action to defend minorities in Bangladesh. “The atrocities happening in Bangladesh, against minorities and Hindus… something should be done regarding this… and they should not say such useless things,” she stated.
According to the Center, its stance on the Palestine problem has remained constant. “We have supported a negotiated two State solution, towards establishment of a sovereign, independent and viable State of Palestine within secure and recognized borders, living side by side in peace with Israel,” said the Ministry of External Affairs.
