In the midst of the ‘Banana AI saree trend’ promoted by Google Gemini, a woman has recounted a ‘creepy’ experience with the technology that has astounded the internet. The user posted a video on Instagram, indicating that she also capitalised on the popular trend and used the desired prompt to create an image in Gemini by uploading a photo of herself wearing a saree.
Interestingly, Google’s Gemini Nano Banana model turns user photos into sophisticated pictures of people wearing sarees against old-fashioned backgrounds. But there was a surprise in the user’s altered photo.
After creating my image, I discovered something unsettling. According to a trend that is getting trendy on Instagram, you send your photo to Gemini with a prompt, and Gemini turns it into a saree. She remarked, “I tried it last night and I found something really creepy on this.”
How is it that Gemini is aware that I have a mole in this area of my body? This mole is visible to you. It’s eerie and frightening. I still don’t understand how this occurred. I wanted to let everyone know about this. “Whatever you post on social media or AI platforms, please be careful,” she continued.
It also happened to me.
The video received around seven million views and hundreds of comments as of the most recent update. Some viewers shared similar experiences, while others pointed out that the Google-Gemini nexus contained more information on Ms. Bhawnani than the prompt picture.
Everything is interconnected. One person commented: “This happened to me too. Gemini is owned by Google, and they look through your photos and videos to create the AI picture.” It also showed my tattoos, which are not visible in my pictures. I’m not sure how, but it was taking place.
“Well, that is precisely how AI works,” remarked a third. AI uses your digital footprint—all of the photos you’ve been posting online—to gather information. An AI will therefore use your previous uploads when you ask it to create an image.
“Here’s a technical solution,” a fourth person said: “The AI scans all of your photos from the internet and produces a more realistic picture based on your request. That’s all.
Google’s Gemini app includes an AI image editor called Nano Banana. It became well-known for creating 3D edits that looked like miniatures at first, but the technique swiftly expanded to other forms, most notably the immensely popular saree alterations.
