BJP member Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed in the Rajya Sabha that “foreign hands” were working together to thwart the Viksit Bharat (developed India) agenda.
Following protests from the Congress, a political dispute broke out on Thursday when a politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tried to associate billionaire George Soros with Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and another referred to him as a “traitor.”
postponement in the House following BJP legislator Nishikant Dubey’s inquiry into Gandhi’s possible ties to groups attempting to “derail” India’s economic development. BJP member Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed in the Rajya Sabha that “foreign hands” were working together to thwart the Viksit Bharat (developed India) agenda.
Congress leaders donned stickers outside and inside the House in the morning, claiming a connection between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Adani Group. Gandhi also applied a sticker that said, “Modi, Adani Ek Hain (Modi, Adani are the same)” to his T-shirt. The Congress MPs were informed by an irritated Speaker Om Birla that the only item that can be added to the members’ dress is the tricolor.
Dubey tried to make the Congress do the opposite. He accused the Congress of attempting to disrupt Parliament and overthrow the government by collaborating with the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), a global journalistic initiative supported by Soros’s Open Society Foundation, in his Zero Hour intervention. He also questioned Gandhi ten times.
Gandhi was allegedly involved in a “triangle” with Soros and OCCRP to destabilize India, according to BJP Lok Sabha MP Sambit Patra.
“We will discuss this perilous triangle that is attempting to undermine India. George Soros and other American agencies are on one side of this triangle, while OCCRP, a major news source, is on the other. Rahul Gandhi, a traitor of the highest kind, is on the final and most significant side of the triangle. I don’t hesitate to use this word. He declared, “I have no qualms about calling the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha a traitor.”
Congress reacted angrily to the remarks, with party lawmakers descending on the House well to yell slogans and demand an apology from Dubey.
In a letter to Birla, Congress MP Manickam Tagore expressed his grave worry about Patra’s alleged use of “slanderous language” against Gandhi and called for strict punishment. Patra’s actions, according to Tagore, were a “blatant violation” of the ethics and decorum required of a member of Parliament.
A civil complaint filed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York against the chairman of the Adani Group and seven executives of his massive conglomerate, as well as a criminal indictment filed by the US Department of Justice (DoJ), rocked Parliament for the first six days of this session.
According to the allegation, the Adani Group and the Solar Energy Corp of India made an agreement for the Solar Energy Corp of India to purchase solar power at a specific price, which it would subsequently sell to the states. However, by agreeing to purchase the power at a high price, no state was willing to sign a Power Sales Agreement (PSA) with the company. Prosecutors claim that Adani provided incentives for the states to sign the deal. The accusations have already been rejected by the Adani Group as unfounded.
The Congress has often disrupted Parliament and claimed a connection between the Union administration and the Adani Group. The BJP retaliated on Thursday by launching counterattacks against Soros and Gandhi.
Both inside and outside the House, Dubey took the lead.
Was the Bharat Jodo Yatra without Salil Shetty? Doesn’t he work for the Soros Foundation? Did they not meet Barbara Lee, Ro Khanna, or Ilhan Omar, who wrote a letter in America requesting that they shun the prime minister and refrain from speaking to him in parliament? Do they not wish to split Kashmir and establish Khalistan? Outside of Parliament, he declared, “They meet all the elements in foreign countries who want to break India.”
As irate Congressmen demanded Dubey’s apology, the Lower House was adjourned three times. Amid widespread protests by the Congress and a few other opposition politicians, Railways Minister Ashwani Kumar was unable to respond to the discussion of the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
Gaurav Gogoi, the deputy leader of the Congress, was unable to complete his address due to the noise, despite Om Birla’s efforts to stop Dubey. Gandhi supports peace, but the BJP is disseminating false information. The BJP opposes running for the House. In reference to recent violence in the UP town that claimed four lives, Gogoi stated, “They want to do the same thing in Sambhal the way they have set Manipur on fire.”
The opposition’s actions were later deemed unacceptable by Kiren Rjiju, the minister of parliamentary affairs. They (the opposition) entered Parliament decked out in vibrant clothing, and they then began a fashion show outside of Parliament. This diminishes Parliament’s honor, and I abhor it. Disruptions like this won’t accomplish anything or garner votes, Rijiju stated.
As part of the Congress’s plan for Thursday, he was alluding to leaders of several INDIA bloc parties donning black jackets with stickers that read “Modi Adani Ek Hai” and “Adani Safe Hai.” Additionally, the opposition MPs demonstrated at the new Parliament building’s main entrance, Makar Dwar.
Later, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that Dubey had broken at least three explicit parliamentary rules when he made a “outrageous statement.”
“You can’t make disparaging remarks about other people. Second, you are not allowed to steal someone’s name unless you provide them written notice beforehand. Third, an MP’s parliamentary privilege cannot be violated. We vehemently opposed to him breaking all three rules and being let to talk and rant for a considerable amount of time.
According to Tharoor, the Congress leaders met with the Speaker and demanded that the speaker apologize and that these comments be removed from the record.
“Clearly, this is a waste of our time, the time of the public and taxpayers, and the time of the parliament. I would like to know how the BJP, which claims to be the ruling party and wants the House to continue operating, can support one of its members in making such egregious and flagrant remarks in Parliament. It’s really startling,” he continued.
KC Venugopal, general secretary of the Congress, described the episode as regrettable.
The Congress leaders brought up the subject of LoP’s travel ban to Sambhal. Nishikant Dubey was given permission by the speaker to speak at Zero Hour. The LoP, Wayanad MP, and the entire Congress were all the targets of defamatory remarks.Such disparaging statements have never been used in parliament’s history. We are in a lot of agony.Rahul Gandhi opposed his corruption from the beginning, and ever since, Adani’s operatives have been mistreating him.We expect the individual who used such profanity to apologize. The Speaker ought to do what has to be done.
Following the yelling of anti-Trivedi slogans by opposition members, the Rajya Sabha was postponed until noon. Trivedi stated during Zero Hour that attempts to sabotage the national agenda have been underway since 2021. Trivedi claimed foreign funding and ties to Soros, citing an article on OCCRP from the French journal Mediapart.

Attempts to undermine India’s established systems and interests on the social and economic fronts through foreign actions have been observed in the last three years since the country’s emergence as a strategic, economic, and diplomatic power, he said.
When the BJP congressman mentioned the findings against the Adani Group, opposition members erupted in anger, but Jagdeep Dhankhar, the chairman, stated that it was a “serious issue and we cannot allow the largest democracy to be made dysfunctional by the deep state.” Any movement or proposal that poses a threat to our sovereignty should be opposed by this House as a whole.
