Mani Ratnam’s next titled ‘Inji Vellam’; Vijay Sethupathi, Sai Pallavi shine in first look

Inji Vellam is the title of ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s much-awaited romance drama starring Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi. The makers announced the news on Monday, September 7, with a first-look poster.

Mani’s production banner Madras Talkies announced the news on social media with a motion poster featuring the lead pair in a warm embrace. Details regarding the plot and the rest of the cast are under wraps. According to reports, most of the portions of the film were shot in Kolkata.

Inji Vellam continues Mani’s acclaimed collaboration with Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman. The film has cinematography by Avik Mukhopadhayay and editing by Sreekar Prasad. Produced by Subaskaran, Mani Ratnam and Siva Ananth under their Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions banner, the film is set to release in theates in January 2027.

Mani Ratnam’s last project was Thug Life (2025), starring Kamal Haasan in the lead. The movie failed to live up to the expectations and didn’t fare well at the box office.

Vijay, meanwhile, has Slum Dog, directed by Puri Jagannadh; a film with director Balaji Tharaneedharan; Pocket Novel, directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja; and Farzi 2, helmed by Raj & DK. He is also the host of the current season of popular reality show Bigg Boss Tamil. Sai Pallavi’s line-up includes the much-awaited Ramayana, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, and OM: Chapter 1, co-starring Dhanush, Mammootty, and Sreeleela.
