Before the pivotal Test series with Sri Lanka, Gautam Gambhir has defined the degree of dedication and effort he wants from every Indian player.
As India gets ready for a difficult two-Test series against Sri Lanka, coach Gautam Gambhir has outlined the expectations he has for his team.
Gambhir has emphasized the need of being ready for every challenge and encouraged his players to adjust to whatever comes their way. India’s youthful team will play two Test matches against their Asian adversary.
“We are aware of our goals and what is ahead of us. We are capable of performing at a high volume, pushing ourselves to the maximum, and checking every box. Gambhir informed the BCCI.
“Whether we are batting first or bowling first on August 15th morning, we are fully prepared with every response, every question posed to us, and every response we are prepared to provide. Thus, from now on, make sure we check every box.
India’s first ICC World Test Championship assignment following their disappointing home loss to South Africa at the end of previous year is this series.
India has since recovered, winning the one-off Test against Afghanistan in June. However, the team will be keen to win the series in Sri Lanka to increase their prospects of making it to the World Test Championship Final at The Oval the following year.
With a points percentage of 48.15, India is now ranked fifth in the World Test Championship, behind Bangladesh, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand.
A combination of young, talented players and a few newcomers make up India’s roster for the series.
After an outstanding Ranji Trophy campaign in which he claimed an amazing 60 wickets to assist Jammu & Kashmir win their first title, bowler Auqib Nabi earned his first Test call-up following Jasprit Bumrah’s injury.
Saransh Jain, a 33-year-old all-rounder who has also been called up for his debut Test match after regularly performing well for Madhya Pradesh in the domestic circuit with both bat and ball, is joining him.
Gambhir said, “We’ve got a couple of new guys in.”

Shubman Gill (c), KL Rahul (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharsan (fitness pending), Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain, and Auqib Nabi make up the Indian team.
