Despite the party’s recent bypoll loss, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated on Wednesday that he is confident the BJP will win the Datia Assembly seat in the 2028 Madhya Pradesh elections.
Speaking at the News18 Diamond States Summit, Yadav insisted that the seat had historically been a Congress bastion and claimed that the BJP’s vote share in Datia had improved compared to prior elections.
Wasn’t Datia already a member of Congress? The BJP had not previously won this seat. It is true, nevertheless, that we have continued to grow our vote share in our democratic system. In response to inquiries over the outcome of the bypoll, Yadav stated, “This time, we received around 1,700 more votes.”
Although the Chief Minister acknowledged that the BJP desired to win the seat, he accepted the mandate of the people.
“Winning that seat was definitely our goal. However, in a democracy, the people choose the proper choice. “I am certain that the BJP will undoubtedly regain power in the 2028 Assembly elections,” he declared.
In the bypoll, Ghanshyam Singh of the Congress won the Datia Assembly seat by 6,016 votes over Ashutosh Tiwari of the BJP.
Tiwari received 60,741 votes, while Singh received 66,757. With 22,527 votes, Azad Samaj Party candidate Damodar Yadav came in third.
Six-time MLA Narottam Mishra, a well-known BJP leader from Datia, was replaced by Ashutosh Tiwari. Mishra’s supporters in his home area protested the decision to refuse him a ticket.
