Delhi court grants bail to US national Matthew Aaron Van Dyke, who was arrested by the NIA in a case involving alleged links to ethnic armed groups in India and Myanmar; agency had earlier filed a chargesheet against him and six Ukrainian nationals under the Immigration and Foreigners Act.
A Delhi court has granted bail to US national Matthew Aaron Van Dyke, who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with an alleged terror conspiracy involving ethnic armed groups in India and Myanmar, sources said.
Special Judge Prashant Sharma had on Thursday sought the NIA’s response to Van Dyke’s bail plea and directed the agency to file its reply by September 18.
Earlier this month, the NIA filed a chargesheet against Van Dyke and six Ukrainian nationals, accusing them of illegal entry, stay and movement in India.
The agency, however, did not invoke the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in the chargesheet. The accused were booked under Sections 21 and 23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act.
