Manish Malhotra’s Met Gala 2026 ensemble, which features a traditional Indian bandhgala, reflects Mumbai. Check it out!
The most prominent names in the world come together once more for the Met Gala 2026, the biggest night in fashion. The star-studded event, which takes place on Monday, May 4, turns the famous Metropolitan Museum of Art’s steps into a worldwide runway. The Met Gala continues to define couture’s most audacious frontier with headline-grabbing designs and viral moments, demonstrating why it is still the most anticipated and talked-about night in fashion.
In a traditional Indian bandhgala, fashion designer Manish Malhotra recently made a big impression with a style that combines elegance with craftsmanship storytelling. Wearing a fitted black suit, the ensemble was completed with a striking detail. Heavy white threadwork with flowery and elaborate designs gives the jacket an almost archival appearance. I was particularly drawn to the rigid silhouette and high collar.
The intricate details, which include tiny figurines, measuring tape components, and delicate threadwork, represent the process of creation and the hands that create couture. There are also allusions to Mumbai’s famous movie locations.
Overall, it appears to be a well-considered, cutting-edge style that celebrates Manish Malhotra’s craftsmanship and tradition while going beyond aesthetics.
In the meantime, filmmaker Karan Johar is working with designer Manish Malhotra on his eagerly awaited debut. Regular guests will also walk the red carpet, including Natasha Poonawalla and Isha Ambani.
