Sophie Turner’s first appearance as the legendary Lara Croft for Prime Video’s upcoming Tomb Raider series, which is based on the wildly successful video game franchise, was revealed on Thursday. Turner’s makeover into the renowned adventurer was formally confirmed when the streamer posted a still from what was reportedly a wardrobe test on its official Instagram account.

Sophie is seen in the picture wearing a green blouse, black shorts, and dark sunglasses, creating a contemporary yet timeless interpretation of Lara Croft’s characteristic look. “Get your artifacts out” was the caption for the picture. Lara is en route. #WardrobeTest #TombRaider.” Even though the revelation created a lot of attention, people’ opinions on the internet were strongly split between appreciation and criticism.

Internet Reactions to Lara Croft, Played by Sophie Turner

The actor’s appearance and casting decision were immediately praised by a number of fans. A fan commented, “Oh my god! She appears flawless! I was surprised that they chose such a timeless style. “And this is just the wardrobe test!” said another. I assured you that Sophie could pull off the look.

Others expressed the same enthusiasm. “Unbelievable. One admirer commented, “Literally classic coded,” while another remarked, “Now that is one hell of a transformation.” But there was also a clear fondness for Angelina Jolie, who starred as Lara Croft in the movies from the early 2000s. “That appears to be rather nice. However, I will always miss Angelina Jolie,” a user commented.

Not every response was favorable. Turner’s physicality and presence were questioned by some. “Love everything related to the classics, but… she looks like a Scandinavian Lara, where’s the prominent look?” was one criticism. Strong facial features? “Her face doesn’t give me Lara at all; she just seems to have a very different kind of beauty than Lara,” commented a different person. Maybe this will still be improved to offer us the distinctive lips and other features.”

A couple remarks were quite hurtful. “Is this fr? One comment said, “This looks worse than some cosplayers.” “She doesn’t look like she could fight her way out of Sephora, much less be able to take on armies of private sector mercs by herself,” said another.” Some even questioned whether the picture was real. “Is this artificial intelligence? One person stated, “This definitely looks like AI,” while another asserted, “That’s AI, don’t tell me anything else.”
