Google has one last event planned up for 2025 and we could see the corporation speak more about its Android XR platform that caters to smart display devices. We’ve seen the Android 16 revealed at The Android Show earlier this year and now the same platform might become the source for more details regarding the smart glasses version of Android.

During Google I/O 2025, the company hinted at its focus on the smart segment; now, we can see genuine products with newer use cases and how Gemini is probably going to be at the forefront of its mission.

What to Expect from the Android XR at the Android Show

The company’s Android XR teaser has two bots wearing smart glasses and a headset, suggesting that both categories may be featured at the event, which is set for Monday, December 8 at 11:30 PM IST for viewers in India. The event is also being livestreamed via the Android Developer YouTube channel where you can catch all the updates.

What will Google be showcasing or discussing at this Android XR event, then? The specific page for the event says the company will have more to offer about its ongoing smart glasses project which will be trying to rival the Meta Ray Ban series in the market. Samsung has already introduced its XR headset on the platform but we could see additional items in the pipeline and previewed at the event.

These days, it seems impossible to avoid using Gemini, and the success of Google’s next smart glasses with partners like Gentle Monster, Warby Parker, and even Samsung will depend on the integration of AI.

The smart glasses market has a lot of potential to get bigger and Meta has proved that glasses with screens are ready to be unleashed, something that Google did considerably before anybody else with the Google Glass more than a decade ago. Having AI and these glasses could be the right pairing that gets the category moving and becoming ubiquitous in the next few years.
