A day before Shweta Tripathi’s birthday, on July 5, 2024, the third season of Mirzapur debuted on Prime Video. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, the actor, who plays Gajagamini ‘Golu’ Gupta in the well-liked criminal drama series, hinted that viewers would soon receive an update regarding the next chapter of the show.
Mirzapur: The Film, a film adaptation of the series, is also in the works. Both the fourth season and the movie adaptation of Mirzapur are currently in development, according to Shweta Tripathi.
How is Season 4 of Mirzapur going?
The work is underway. So kaam ho raha hai bhahut zor-shor se. I’m really excited to be on that set. Being on it is one of my favorite sets. I adore Golu, and I adore being referred to as Golu didi. Much effort is being put out.
“There is a movie and a fourth season of Mirzapur. Hopefully, Mirzapur’s most recent season was published around my July birthday. The actor says, “I hope we’ll share some good news with all of you on this birthday as well.”
Although Mirzapur season four has not yet been formally approved by Prime Video, the streaming service did reveal Mirzapur: The Film in October 2024.
What is Shweta Tripathi doing now, then?
In honor of Pride Month, the actor, who is also well-known for his roles in the movies Masaan, Haraamkhor, and Cargo, as well as the web series Ye Kaali Kaali Ankhein and Kaalkoot, has made a comeback to the theater as a producer after a 15-year hiatus with the critically praised play Cock. She is supporting the play through AllMyTea, her theater production company.
Manish Gandhi’s film Cock examines issues of love, sexuality, and identity. The drama was performed on Friday, June 6, in New Delhi. The drama, which stars Rytasha Rathore, Tanmay Dhanania, Sahir Mehta, and Harssh Singh, centers on a man who is caught between his romance with a woman and his long-term spouse.
Having grown up watching theater, Shweta Tripathi says she wanted to use Cock’s narrative to confront these issues. She claims that theater was the ideal medium by chance.
“I think we are too preoccupied with “me, myself” and “I, I” these days. As a result, I believe it’s critical to be ourselves as a group. We witnessed something during COVID. In many respects, people claim that love is the solution. I don’t mean it in a Disney-esque manner either. But sometimes the best course of action is kindness and love.
The Story Is Most Important
The representation of the LGBTQIA+ community via a cisgendered lens is a topic of continuous discussion. Some argue that bringing community members into the writers’ room was not the answer.
Tripathi, who is married to musician SlowCheeta (actual name Chaitanya Sharma), says that “the story to come out” is more crucial.
“Artists need to experiment with various characters. A Brahmin will only portray a Brahmin character [on TV], is that correct? It’s a huge argument. [I believe they should] proceed with a story if it is being told effectively and if the audience is comprehending it. Additionally, please include community members if you can, as they deserve to be seen and heard.
It is important to remember that we will eventually be able to take action regarding community filmmakers who are legitimately producing films concerning the community. ‘This is how it should be’ is not a limitation; the script’s demand comes first. It’s crucial to flow, but the most crucial thing is to keep our focus on the primary problem,” she explains.
The Transition of Shweta Tripathi to Producer
The actor will soon make her producing debut as well. She will support web shows as well as movies.
Tripathi adds she was enamored with what her co-stars Ali Fazal (Mirzapur) and Richa Chadha (Masaan) accomplished in their first feature film, Girls Will Be Girls. Through their company, Pushing Buttons Studios, the actor pair supported the film. The movie received the Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award in January 2025 and made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024.
What insights did Chadha and Fazal have from their initial experiences as producers?
“Apne sapnon ko poora karne mein band bohot bajti,” Tripathi acknowledges. People ought to discuss that issue as well. It’s satisfying, of course, and everything is lovely. However, band bajti hai. Her husband, Cheeta, claims that he hasn’t seen his wife in a while. I go early in the morning and return late at night. It will be difficult. You’ll feel insane. I’m attempting to schedule the time for my breathing techniques or meditation. I have also quit working out. We have nine hours to spend rehearsing.
According to her, a producer must arrive before everyone else and go after everyone has left.
“I’m looking for that equilibrium. ‘Kaise banayi [Girls Will Be Girls]?’ I asked Richa. “We thought let’s do this, let’s do that,” she added. This is also possible, and it was completed. I came to see how easy it is. It’s simple yet not easy. You will have a variety of experiences after you take a step. But you’ll get there eventually.
