Aami Dakini, directed by Hitesh Bharadwaj, debuted on June 23. The narrative traces a journey of love, grief, and retaliation against the stunning backdrop of Kolkata.
For many years, Hitesh Bharadwaj has worked in the television industry. The actor is back with his new show, Aami Dakini, after taking over everyone’s hearts with Udaariyaan and Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin. The narrative traces a journey of love, grief, and retaliation against the stunning backdrop of Kolkata. Dakini, a feminine ghost that kills without mercy, terrifies with her stillness, and dazzles with her beauty, is at the center of it all.
Hitesh talked candidly about his most recent performance in an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, revealing, “I’m playing Ayaan Roy Chaudhry.” Although he is from Kolkata, he pursues his higher studies in London. He was relocated overseas after his mother passed away in the city. He wants to follow his mother’s example in every manner when he returns. When he arrives at this mansion, he discovers that there is a Dakini, as locals refer to this presence.
Satyajit Ray is the director I like the most. I’ve seen many of his movies. I’ve always listened to Rabindra Sangeet or Tagore’s stories. I’ve had all of these things in my life for a very long time. However, because I don’t speak that language, I never had the opportunity to work in it. However, I have a strong connection to that culture, their cinema, and their heritage. The actor continued, “I am thrilled to be a part of this show because they connected me with that route somewhere.”
The actor did acknowledge, though, that he was skeptical when he was asked to do the show. We all have certain preconceived notions regarding spooky shows. Indian television has a lot of supernatural series, but they are all extremely distinct. I haven’t been into that genre either. I enjoy comedy and romance a lot. I thought this story was both a thriller and a horror story when I first heard it. This has excellent narrative. He assured us that the audience would enjoy this performance.
In this context, Hitesh was questioned if he shared the belief of those who contend that television programming is regressing. “We are getting better,” the actor clarified, disagreeing. “This is not how it is. Slowly, we are evolving. The process of changing a media takes time. It requires time. Our film has changed. The release of Dil Chahta Hai in the 1990s revolutionized the film industry. With the release of Gangs of Wasseypur in 2013, everything changed and realism was incorporated into our movies. It has changed significantly even on television, from Fauji to Shanti and Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. We are evolving gradually, but I can’t say that it’s retrograde,” he said.
“We’re improving. The ratings are now shown. We must improve TV’s substance if we want people to watch it,” the actor said.
