Emma Watson is competing in the Summer Eights rowing event at Oxford University, demonstrating her athletic abilities.
Emma Watson, also known as Hermoine, has switched from wands to oars! At Oxford University’s Summer Eights rowing competition, the Harry Potter star was seen shouting into a microphone while navigating a boat. She formally joined the rowing squad at her college and assumed the position of coxswain, who directs rather than rows and shouts instructions.
Last year, the 35-year-old enrolled in a graduate program at Oxford. Emma led her team in four races, and although though they only won one, she gave directions like a veteran.
But one of the opposing teams defeated Emma’s side and, in a subtle (or not-so-subtle) jab, played the Harry Potter theme music following their victory.
Emma has purposefully avoided appearing on our screens lately. She has taken a slight hiatus from her work to concentrate on her education and personal development. After more than ten years away, she really made a rare appearance on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
Emma once stated that she needed to take a step back and do things on her own terms when discussing her break from acting. In an interview conducted in December 2023, she stated, “It gave me a sense of autonomy and creative freedom.”
After the series concluded, Emma Watson wasted little time in escaping the Harry Potter mold. Ballet Shoes was her first major move after Hermione, and in 2008, she voiced the animated movie The Tale of Despereaux. Following her departure from Hogwarts, she landed a series of varied roles, first starring in My Week with Marilyn (2011) as a supporting character and then making an impression on viewers as the lively and defiant Sam in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012).
After that, Watson played Alexis Neiers in Sofia Coppola’s 2013 film The Bling Ring. In 2014, she made a dramatic appearance as the adopted daughter of the title character in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah. She won the British Artist of the Year award and gained a significant nomination from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in the same year.
In Disney’s 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast remake, Emma enchanted viewers as Belle. She then joined Greta Gerwig’s all-star cast in Little Women (2019) as the realistic and grounded Meg March.
Between 2011 and 2014, Watson was able to balance filming with his time in academia. She ultimately earned a degree in English literature from Brown University in May 2014.
