Online reactions to the trailer for Kamal Haasan’s next movie Thug Life, which was unveiled on Saturday, have been conflicting. While some viewers expressed worry over some intimate sequences, including a love encounter and a kiss involving the 70-year-old actor, others applauded the reunion of Haasan and director Mani Ratnam.

A user posted a screenshot of Kamal Haasan kissing actor Abhirami and a love scene between Haasan and Trisha Krishnan from the teaser on Reddit.

“Noo god please no,” was the comment for the photo, which provoked a conversation about the stark age gap between Haasan and his co-stars. Trisha and Abhirami are 42, while Haasan is 70.

One Reddit member commented, “Trisha is just 3 years older than Shruti Hassan btw.” “Only 30 years apart,” another person added. “Almost soulmates!” “Abhirami and Kamal sharing a lip lock with a 30 year old difference seems odd,” said a third commenter.

Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan play the main parts in Mani Ratnam’s film Thug Life. The movie chronicles the adventures of a mobster who guides a young boy through the criminal underworld. The youngster, portrayed by Silambarasan, develops into a reliable ally throughout the years.

A gritty, dramatic mobster tale is hinted at in the trailer, which spans several decades. Sanya Malhotra, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, Vaiyapuri, and Trisha Krishnan are also part of the cast.

Thug Life is Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan’s first joint project since their 1987 hit song Nayakan. On June 5, the movie is expected to be released in theaters.
