With initiatives like House of the Dragon and the forthcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, HBO is delving deeper into Westeros’ past while gradually focusing on what might come next. When it comes to the surviving Stark siblings in particular, many longstanding watchers have been wondering if the tale will ever progress rather than regress. Sophie Turner has already expressed her opinions on whether or not she will ever reprise her role as Sansa Stark.
In Game of Thrones, Sansa’s quest came to a dramatic conclusion. After years of hardship, she was named Queen in the North, guaranteeing her people’s freedom while Bran governed the other kingdoms. In a climax that caused controversy, it seemed to many fans like a rare moment of closure. However, George R.R. Martin’s recent remarks have aroused new interest. The author disclosed that while several spin-offs are being developed, several ideas for sequels are also being investigated.
Will Sophie Turner be back for the follow-up to Game of Thrones?
Turner was asked if she would be willing to explore Sansa’s story in a recent interview with The Direct. Before being honest, she gave a humorous response. “Show me the cash,” he says, laughing. She stated, “I don’t know, I think it would be hard but also amazing to come back to it,” implying that although the idea is alluring, the choice would not be simple.
The actor also considered if the original series’ distinct energy could be replicated. Perhaps it would be pure happiness, or perhaps it would be an attempt to hold onto something that was magical in the past but cannot be duplicated. Turner clarified that the plot would be more important than sentimentality when he said, “I would have to see a script.”
How satisfied she is with Sansa’s conclusion is another important consideration. Turner thinks her character was one of the few obvious winners of the final season, despite criticism. “But I felt that no one else was really happy with their ending, and I was very happy with how Sansa ended her story in Game of Thrones,” she remarked. “I don’t know if I could revisit it, but I think I got a good one.”
Kit Harrington was previously asked if he would join the team again. “No, god no,” he said to Variety. I don’t want to approach it at all. I did that for ten years. Thank you; I’m fine. There were plans for a Jon Snow spin-off, but Harrington subsequently revealed that it was canceled due to a lack of material.
Future Game of Thrones prequels and sequels
With A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms scheduled to premiere in January 2026 and House of the Dragon Season 3 later that year, HBO’s schedule is now already packed. Martin’s comments imply that the door to Westeros’ future has not yet been completely closed, even though the previously proposed Jon Snow sequel is no longer proceeding.
