In the third and final ODI of the three-match series on Sunday in Indore, India was shockingly defeated by New Zealand by 41 runs. The Blackcaps, who were asked to bat first, amassed an impressive 337/8 in 50 overs, with Daryl Mitchell reaching a century once more. Veteran batsman Virat Kohli responded by keeping India’s innings together and scoring his 85th international century, but he got little help from the opposition. India lost the ODI series 1-2 as a result of being bowled out for 296.
Since it was New Zealand’s first ODI series victory in India, this loss was very bitter. Shubman Gill, the captain of India, voiced his disappointment in response to the setback and discussed the team’s objectives for the 2027 ODI World Cup.We came here 1-1 after the first game, and our performance was unsatisfactory. We have certain things to consider and work on. Virat’s batting style is usually advantageous. Despite the difficulty of batting at No. 8, Harshit’s performance in this series was outstanding. During the presentation ceremony, Gill remarked, “The fast bowlers also bowled well throughout the series.”
“We want to offer Nitish Kumar Reddy opportunity with the World Cup in mind. He continued, “We want to give him enough overs to see which combinations work for us and what kinds of deliveries suit him.”
Gill’s remarks regarding Nitish were made the day after Indian assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate acknowledged that the all-rounder was not “doing a heck of a lot” with the little playing time he had been given after the second ODI loss.
Daryl Mitchell, who won Player of the Series with scores of 84, 131*, and 137, claimed that he benefited from living in the moment during the series.Being a part of the team is incredibly pleasant. It’s unique to win in India. The way we formed alliances as a team was essential, and it’s good to be up there,” Mitchell remarked.
