On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the NDA’s performance in Maharashtra’s municipal corporation elections, claiming that the outcomes demonstrated the public’s increasing support for the alliance’s “pro-people good governance” platform.
Maharashtra, thank you! In a post on X, the Prime Minister stated, “The dynamic people of the state bless the NDA’s agenda of pro-people good governance,” adding that the NDA’s relationship with Maharashtra’s citizens has “further deepened” according to the findings of several civic surveys.
According to PM Modi, voters were moved by the alliance’s development goal and track record. “Thank you to everyone in Maharashtra.” He declared, “This is a vote to celebrate the wonderful culture the state is associated with and to add momentum to progress.”
The Prime Minister commended NDA employees for their efforts on the ground throughout the campaign in a different post. “I am incredibly proud of all the NDA Karyakartas who have dedicated their lives to serving the people of Maharashtra. They talked about our alliance’s track record, highlighted our vision for the coming times and also effectively countered the lies of the Opposition. “I hope the best for them,” he remarked.
The BJP overtakes the Sena in Mumbai and gains ground elsewhere.
The Prime Minister’s comments coincided with the BJP-led alliance’s impressive performance in Maharashtra’s major cities, according to counting patterns.
In the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections in Mumbai, the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the single largest party, ending the undivided Shiv Sena’s nearly three-decade domination in India’s wealthiest local body. About 125 of the 227 seats in the BMC, which has a budget of Rs 74,427 crore for 2025–2026, were expected to be won by the BJP-led alliance.
The BJP is currently in a great position to lead the wealthy civic body thanks to the Shiv Sena, led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The Thackeray cousins had reunited after 20 years in the crucial BMC election, but preliminary findings indicated that their attempts to halt the BJP’s progress were unsuccessful.
The alliance of opposing Nationalist Congress Party sections trailed behind as the BJP surged ahead in Pune and nearby Pimpri-Chinchwad, headed for a landslide victory.
Additional cities and more general patterns
Trends indicated that the BJP was on track to surpass its 2017 total of 108 seats in the 151-member Nagpur Municipal Corporation in Nagpur, the home of Chief Minister Fadnavis and Union minister Nitin Gadkari, while the Congress was having difficulty making significant gains.
However, the Congress achieved a significant victory in Latur, driving the BJP to second place and gaining a resounding majority in the 70-member municipal corporation.
After a few years, elections were held on January 15 for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, and counting began on Friday. These included major cities in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and elsewhere, including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Thane, Nashik, and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
