Warner Bros. has released the first teaser for Remain, M. Night Shyamalan’s supernatural romantic thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor. Gyllenhaal plays Tate Gordon, a reclusive architect who moves to a small coastal town in Cape Cod to work on his latest project, where he meets the enigmatic Wren, played by Dynevor. Their romance gradually takes an unsettling turn as Tate begins encountering events he cannot explain.

The trailer initially presents Tate and Wren’s relationship as a warm, playful romance. They play chess, share meals and spend time together around Tate’s new home, while Wren draws him out of his isolation. The mood changes when she asks why they cannot be together and Tate responds, “I think you know.” Wren subsequently disappears behind a curtain, while another sequence shows Tate discovering an apparently distressed Wren in a dark bathroom before she vanishes when he turns on the light.

The film is based on Remain: A Supernatural Love Story, the 2025 novel by Nicholas Sparks. Shyamalan and Sparks conceived the story together, with each developing it independently for their respective mediums. Shyamalan wrote and directed the film, while Sparks wrote the novel. The movie marks an unusual collaboration between the filmmaker associated with The Sixth Sense and the author behind The Notebook.

Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty, Jay O. Sanders and Tracy Ifeachor also star. James Newton Howard, who previously scored several Shyamalan films including The Village, The Happening and After Earth, provides the music.

Remain opens in theatres on February 5, 2027, ahead of Valentine’s Day.
