Modi has been invited by President Mohamed Irfaan Ali to travel to Guyana from November 19 to 21.

New Delhi: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his excitement for “meaningful” talks at the forthcoming G20 summit in Brazil, which will expand on the agenda for the grouping regarding India’s bloc presidency from the previous year.

The remarks were made by Modi in a statement prior to his five-day trip to Guyana, Brazil, and Nigeria.

Nigeria will be the prime minister’s first stop before continuing on to Brazil.

“As a troika member, I will be in Brazil for the 19th G-20 Summit. “India’s successful presidency last year mainstreamed the Global South’s priorities into the G-20’s agenda and elevated the G-20 to people’s G-20,” the prime minister stated.

Among the leaders attending the November 18–19 summit in Rio de Janeiro are Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and US President Joe Biden.

Along with South Africa and Brazil, India is a member of the G20 troika.

“Brazil has expanded on India’s heritage this year. I am looking forward to important conversations that align with our ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ vision. The prime minister added, “I will also take advantage of the opportunity to discuss how to advance bilateral cooperation with a number of other leaders.”

Among the key achievements of India’s G20 presidency last year were the induction of the 55-nation African Union as a permanent member of the G20 and the creation of a leaders’ declaration that managed to overcome severe differences over the Ukraine war.

“Building upon our strategic partnership that is based on shared belief in democracy and pluralism” is what Modi stated will be the opportunity of his trip to Nigeria.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has invited the prime minister to visit the nation for two days, from November 16–17.

According to Modi, this will be his first trip to Nigeria, a close ally in the West African region.

“I am also eagerly looking forward to meeting the Indian community and friends from Nigeria who have sent me warm welcome messages in Hindi,” he stated.

At President Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s request, Modi will travel to Guyana from November 19 to 21 for the third and last leg of his journey.

This will be the first Indian prime minister to visit Guyana in more than half a century.

“We will exchange views on giving strategic direction to our unique relationship, which is based on shared heritage, culture and values,” Modi stated.

“I will also pay my respects to one of the oldest Indian diaspora, who migrated more than 185 years ago, and engage a fellow democracy, as I address their Parliament,” he said.
