Maruti Suzuki reported strong September sales, while Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles posted double-digit growth, led by sustained domestic demand and a sharp rise in electric vehicle sales.

Maruti Suzuki India and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles reported strong sales growth in September, signalling sustained demand in India’s passenger vehicle market ahead of the festive season.

Maruti Suzuki’s total sales rose 24.4 per cent year-on-year to 2,36,013 units in September 2026, compared with the year-ago period.

The automaker’s sales included 1,85,252 domestic units, 6,542 vehicles sold to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and 44,219 export units.

Domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,81,838 units during the month. Sales of mini, compact and mid-size cars totalled 91,887 units, while utility vehicle sales stood at 78,911 units. Van sales were recorded at 11,040 units.

For the April-September period of FY27, Maruti Suzuki’s total sales reached 13,79,378 units, including 11,00,260 domestic sales, 46,263 units sold to other OEMs and 2,32,855 exports.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles reported total sales of 70,210 units in September, up 15 per cent from 60,907 units in September 2025.

Tata Motors’ domestic passenger vehicle sales increased 15 per cent to 68,810 units, while international sales rose 13 per cent to 1,400 units.

Electric vehicle sales were a key growth driver, with Tata Motors PV’s EV sales rising 67 per cent year-on-year to 15,384 units, compared with 9,191 units a year earlier.

For Q2 FY27, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles recorded total sales of 2,01,723 units, up 40 per cent from 1,44,397 units in Q2 FY26. Domestic sales increased 40 per cent to 1,96,674 units, while international sales rose 20 per cent to 5,049 units.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director and CEO Shailesh Chandra said demand had sustained momentum following GST 2.0, with industry Vahan volumes growing around 24 per cent year-on-year.

Chandra said the company entered the festive season with a strong order book and healthy customer traction. Tata Motors’ EV sales crossed 47,000 units in Q2, marking a 90 per cent year-on-year increase, while EV penetration in its portfolio rose to 23 per cent.

CNG vehicles accounted for 28 per cent of quarterly volumes, taking the combined contribution of EV and CNG vehicles to 51 per cent.

The company said it remained optimistic about the festive season and would progressively scale up production to meet demand.
