Marasa Africa, Uganda has appointed Michael Rourke as Director of Tourism, bringing more than 30 years of hospitality experience and over two decades of working within Uganda’s tourism industry.
Mike’s career spans hospitality and safari operations across Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique and South Africa. His experience includes hotel management, remote lodge operations, new product development, project delivery, conservation work and guest experience.
Tanya Madhvani, Director of Marasa Africa says, “Having worked in destinations including Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls, Mike brings extensive knowledge of Uganda’s safari sector and longstanding relationships with tourism partners, conservation organisations and communities bordering protected areas. We are delighted to welcome him to the team as we continue to develop our lodges and guest experiences.”
Michael Rourke said: “Uganda has been my home for more than two decades, and after all that time there is still always something new to discover.” He continues, “What excites me about Marasa Africa is the opportunity to build on some incredible properties and create experiences that truly reflect the places they are part of. Mike also serves as a director of the Uganda Conservation Foundation, reflecting his longstanding interest and strong belief in conservation and community development. His approach to hospitality places particular emphasis on mentorship, team development and relationships across the wider tourism industry.
His appointment comes as Marasa Africa develops its brand and guest experiences, with a growing focus on connecting guests with the landscapes, wildlife and communities surrounding its lodges. The family-led group operates seven lodges across Uganda and Kenya.
