Manoj Bajpayee will be seen playing the role of Mohandas Gandhi in Sudhir Mishra’s upcoming directorial, it was announced on Thursday (August 20, 2026).

The film is backed by Anubhav Sinha and uncovers a lesser-known 21-day chapter of India’s independence history, as per the makers. It also stars Saurabh Shukla in a pivotal role.

Speaking about the film, Sudhir said in a statement, “This new film focuses on an important yet lesser-known chapter of history—the 21 days in the life of Mahatma Gandhi during India’s independence. At a time when the nation was stepping into freedom, and Delhi was becoming the center of power, Gandhi made an unexpected choice: he chose to walk away. But by walking away, he did not retreat. He reinvented himself. While history books record the surface events of that era, this story explores what lay beneath that famous choice and will depict the personal journey of a leader redefining his path.”

Sudhir is known for making Hazaron Khwahishen Aisi, Dharavi, Ye Woh Manzil To Nahin and the 2023 crime-thriller Afwaah, which was also backed by Anubhav.

More details about the film are awaited.

Meanwhile, Manoj was last seen in Governer, which was released in theatres on June 12 earlier this year.
