Keshav Maharaj, a left-arm spinner from South Africa, has been officially signed by the Mumbai Indians to replace Mitchell Santner, who will not play in the 2026 Indian Premier League because of a left shoulder injury he acquired during Thursday’s (April 23) match against the Chennai Super Kings.
The Mumbai Indians hope Santner makes a good recovery and anticipate seeing him play again soon.
In all formats, Maharaj is among the most seasoned spinners in South Africa. Since making his international debut in 2016, the left-arm bowler with deft control and the capacity to apply constant pressure has been a reliable member of the Proteas lineup. Without having played a single Twenty20 International, he was chosen for South Africa’s 2021 World Cup squad, made his captaining debut against Sri Lanka, and claimed a wicket with his first ball in the format!
With a top of 3 for 15, Keshav has claimed 31 wickets in his previous 30 Twenty20 appearances. The Mumbai Indians are thrilled to have him join the Blue and Gold. In addition to his values, discipline, and capacity for high-pressure play, his hunger, skill, and experience make him the perfect cricket player for this team.
