The United States responded to US President Donald Trump’s “bombing” warning over nuclear talks by “readying missiles” hours later. Iran’s military has prepared missiles that are operationally capable of striking US-affiliated targets worldwide, according to the state-run Tehran Times.
“A significant number of these launch-ready missiles are located in underground facilities scattered across the country, designed to withstand airstrikes,” according to the research.
Mr. Trump threatened to destroy Iran with unparalleled ferocity if it did not cooperate with US demands, he told a reporter from the US network NBC News on Sunday. “If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing,” Trump stated. “It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before.”
Mr. Trump hinted at the prospect of reimposing secondary tariffs on Iran and its trading partners in addition to threatening to use force. Depending on Tehran’s reaction, he said, a final decision on these levies would be made in the upcoming weeks.
“The Tehran Times has learned that Iran’s armed forces have readied missiles with the capability to strike US-related positions, amid ongoing threats of military action from President Donald Trump if Tehran does not agree to a new nuclear agreement on his terms,” according to the report.
Mr. Trump pulled the United States out of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also referred to as the Iran nuclear agreement, during his first term in office. In return for the lifting of sanctions, the accord had placed stringent restrictions on Iran’s nuclear operations. While reiterating that his administration is still amenable to negotiations, Mr. Trump emphasized that Iran must show that it is committed to restricting its nuclear program.
Masoud Pezeshkian, the recently elected president of Iran, addressed Mr. Trump’s remarks in a message that was shown on official television. He admitted that indirect talks, mediated through Oman, might go on even while he rejected direct talks with Washington.
Additionally, the supreme leader has emphasized that indirect talks are still possible. We don’t shy away from discussions. Instead, we have had issues thus far because of their infidelity. According to news agency AFP, Mr. Pezeshkian stated, “They need to demonstrate that they can build trust with regard to decisions, and I hope this will come to pass.”
