Despite a strong bowling effort from Bangladesh, South Africa defeated them by three wickets in Vizag because to the combined efforts of Chloe Tryon and Nadine de Klerk. After deciding to bat, Bangladesh posted 232 for 6 thanks to contrasting fifties from Sharmin Akhter and Shorna Akter. South Africa faltered early in their chase, but with three deliveries left, they crossed the finish line thanks to half-centuries from Tryon and Marizanne Kapp as well as an undefeated 37 off 29 from de Klerk.
Tazmin Brits chipped a catch back to Nahida Akter to earn her second consecutive duck after the century against New Zealand, giving South Africa an early setback in the chase. After that, Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch embarked up a half-century partnership, but South Africa only managed 58 runs in 15 overs thanks to the spinners from Bangladesh controlling the scoring pace. To make matters worse, South Africa fell to 62 for 3 as Wolvaardt, who had been given a reprieve by Rabeya, was run out and Ritu Moni had Bosch slice a catch to mid-off.
When South Africa collapsed to 78 for 5 in the 23rd over, things took a turn for the worst. Rabeya Khan and Fahima Khatun also took wickets, and Annerie Dercksen and Sinalo Jafta were bowled. After that, Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon put on a strong half-century stand to start the rebuilding process. After hitting a six off Shorna to reach her fifty, Kapp lost to Nahida in the following over, breaking an 85-run partnership. Tryon then added 35 in collaboration with de Klerk, surpassing fifty.
In Rabeya’s over, Tryon was dropped at deep midwicket, which was a fortunate break that allowed her to reach fifty. The equation reached 37 off the final six overs after she followed it up with a six and a four in the same over, yielding 16. However, de Klerk was left to take responsibility for the rest of the innings after Tryon was run out shortly after. De Klerk hit two fours from Fahima to reduce the total to 21 runs off the final three overs, after only 5 runs were scored from the 45th and 46th overs combined.
Rabeya gave up just five runs in the penultimate over, while Nahida gave up eight in the 48th. However, Bangladesh committed a crucial mistake when Shorna dropped de Klerk at long-off. She then smashed a four and a six off Nahida to give South Africa a thrilling victory that moved them up to third place in the standings.
After a steady batting performance in the middle overs, Shorna Akter’s explosive half-century gave Bangladesh the late boost they needed to achieve a competitive score. Sharmin Akhter, the opener, set the stage with a steady 50 off 77 deliveries. Before being run out, she anchored the Bangladeshi innings with six boundaries. Bangladesh reached 53 before losing Rubya Haider for 30 in the cautious opening exchanges. Bangladesh was reduced to 73/2 in 25 overs as Fargana Hoque put up a tenacious 25 from 52 balls and Mlaba took her maiden wicket.
Brief scores: Bangladesh 232/6 in 50 overs (Shorna Akter 51*, Sharmin Akhter 50; Nonkululeko Mlaba 2-42) lost to South Africa 235/7 in 49.3 overs (Chloe Tryon 62, Marizanne Kapp 56; Nahida Akter 2-44) by 3 wickets.
