Google’s AI-powered image editing tool, Nano Banana, has been released in Lens and AI Mode. On iOS and Android, users can use their own photographs or suggestions to create and edit photos. Currently available in the US and India, it will soon be expanded worldwide.

Google has introduced Nano Banana, its newest AI-powered image editing tool, under Search, which lets users immediately alter images using Lens and AI Mode. On October 16, the announcement and a comprehensive how-to guide were posted on the company’s official X account.

Users must launch Lens in the Google app on iOS or Android in order to utilize the new functionality. A yellow banana icon 🍌 indicates the just added “Create” mode. Users can snap a photograph and explain the alterations they want, or they can try given prompts like “make a photo booth pic of me.” While completed photos can be shared with friends and family, follow-up prompts allow for more adjustments.

A sample video of a woman converting her photo into a classic black-and-white photo booth strip was posted by Google. She gave the AI instructions to “change my facial expression in each shot,” which produced visually striking results that demonstrated the tool’s creative flexibility.

Google suggested using the rear-facing camera or choosing an already-taken photo from their gallery for those who are camera shy in a blog post published on October 13. The tool is perfect for putting ideas into visual form, such when making a pet costume for Halloween. Using the “Create image” tool and text prompts, AI Mode also enables the creation of completely original images from scratch. In order to identify products with a similar style or to explore styling ideas, users can carry on the conversation with AI.

Accessibility and growth

Users in India and the United States can now access Nano Banana’s picture editing features in English. Google announced that it will be adding more nations and languages in the upcoming months, indicating a broader global rollout of its AI-powered creative tools.
