vIn response to a question about tariffs on India, Donald Trump said, “You Know PM Modi Was…”
US President Donald Trump said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a “very smart man” and put up a good front during trade negotiations between Washington and India.
“Just lately, Prime Minister Modi visited this place. Additionally, we have always been close friends. One of the countries with the highest tariffs in the world is India. It’s cruel. We had excellent conversations, and I consider him to be a highly intelligent man and a terrific friend. “I am confident that the relationship between India and our nation will be extremely successful,” Trump stated.
He made the announcement a day after he announced a 25% tax on all foreign automobiles coming into the US. Nearly half of all automobiles sold in the US will be affected by the tariffs, which are scheduled to go into effect on April 2 and include American brands built abroad.
Trump’s announcement of reciprocal tariffs in February was one of several times he brought attention to India’s high tariffs. “Reciprocal tariffs—they tax us, we charge them—will be implemented soon. We want to be fair, so it’s reciprocal, regardless of what a firm or a nation, like China or India, charges,” he had stated.
In February, PM Modi visited Washington, DC, and spoke with Trump one-on-one. Trump was inaugurated in for a second term as US president less than a month before to the visit.
Both India and the US agreed during the visit to strengthen their bilateral commercial ties in order to foster growth that guarantees equity, national security, and job creation. In order to more than quadruple the overall two-way trade in products and services to $500 billion by 2030, PM Modi and US President Donald Trump established a new bilateral trade goal known as “Mission 500.”
