Director Paul Feig claims that Sydney Sweeney didn’t bring any personal “issues” to work after her engagement fell through. While filming The Housemaid with Feig earlier this year, the 28-year-old actress and her fiancé Jonathan Davino broke up, but the director acknowledges Sydney stayed positive despite the chaos in her personal life.
“She loves to work,” he told the Wall Street Journal. She was very emotionally present, willing to try anything, and didn’t really bring any problems to the table. And I am aware that she was going through some difficult times during this time; after all, everyone is aware of her engagement ending and her breakup, among other things. However, she never brought it to the set. I would ask, “Hey, are you okay?” and she would respond, “I’m fine, I’m great!” without getting defensive.
Sydney hasn’t talked much about the split, although in a May interview with The Times, she stated that she was single, saying: “No [I’m not planning a wedding] … Yes, I am unmarried. I’m spending more time with my pals and discovering a lot about myself. And I’m really enjoying it.”
Sydney said in the WSJ interview that she is now putting a lot of effort into her profession and experiences “anxiety” about taking time off. Sydney clarified, “What I was talking about is more that I didn’t have time to take six months off,” in response to a question concerning her earlier remarks that she couldn’t afford to take a six-month hiatus.
“I was so busy, and still, same,” she continued. But I don’t want to take six months off, so I do that. The very thought of having a few days off makes me anxious. However, I could likely be scheduled for the next three or four years if I wanted to lock things in.”
She is just where she desires to be, a source previously told PEOPLE. Her job schedule this year would overwhelm most people, but not Syd. At the moment, she is completely focused on her work and thrilled about all of her endeavors. But it was her marriage and her relationship that overwhelmed her. It didn’t feel right to her.
“[She is] in the middle of this magical career that she could only dream of a few years ago,” they were quoted as saying. She wants to concentrate on this at the moment. She isn’t prepared to get married. She found it difficult to cut it off, which is why they lasted this long. Because there is no love, they remained together. She only wants to concentrate on her profession at this time, thus they broke up.
