Delhi Metro: Theft of signaling cables between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar stations caused a six-hour disruption in service on the Delhi Metro Blue Line on Thursday, causing commuters much hardship. The Blue Line, which links Dwarka with Vaishali and Noida City Center, is one of the busiest metro lines.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) notified commuters of the event at 8 a.m. and then provided an update at 1:38 p.m. stating that regular services had resumed. “Necessary work to restore the signalling cables has been completed on the affected section and services have returned to normal since 1:38 pm,” the DMRC stated in a statement on X.
The DMRC had previously announced that train operations on the Blue Line were suspended starting in the morning because of what seemed to be theft and damage to the signaling cables caused by criminals between the stations of Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar.
Trains were running at reduced speeds between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar, which led to train bunching, an official said. With the speed restriction in place, passengers faced longer waiting times, causing overcrowding at stations and on trains.
Later, in a post on X, the DMRC stated that it would attempt to repair the affected section from 12:45 pm onwards, during which a single-line operation would be carried out between Subhash Nagar and Kirti Nagar stations.
However, it stated that the repair work would be done overnight following the conclusion of passenger services if it takes longer and is not finished promptly.
“Nothing is safe in the national capital,” said former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in response to the cable theft incident, criticizing Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “What’s going on in Delhi, Amit Shah ji? The Delhi Metro’s cable has been taken. Nothing is secure.
