Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s $18 million compensation in 2025 was higher than the reported pay of Alphabet’s Sundar Pichai and Amazon’s Andy Jassy, but equity could make up a much larger share of his wealth

Dario Amodei, CEO of Claude developer Anthropic, received $18 million in compensation in 2025, putting his annual pay above the reported packages of Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai and Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, but well below some of the highest-paid technology executives.

The disclosure comes as Anthropic prepares for a potential initial public offering that could value the artificial intelligence company at more than $2 trillion. The IPO could come as early as this fall, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

Amodei’s compensation was weighted heavily towards stock and other equity awards rather than salary. His annual salary was doubled to $1.4 million in July 2026, according to the report.

His sister, Anthropic President Daniela Amodei, also received a $1.4 million salary after the increase. She received total compensation of $16.4 million in 2025, with stock and options making up most of her package.

Anthropic’s board has granted the Amodei siblings additional restricted stock units. Some are tied to their continued employment, while others depend on the IPO.

How Amodei compares with Big Tech

Amodei’s $18 million package was below the average compensation of S&P 500 CEOs in 2025. Average annual CEO pay rose 21 per cent to $22.8 million last year, according to AFL-CIO figures cited by Reuters.

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai received $10.9 million in reported compensation in 2025, including $8.8 million for personal security. On an “actually paid” basis, which reflects changes in the value of unvested shares, his compensation was $213.9 million.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy received $2.1 million in reported compensation, mainly for travel and security. His “actually paid” compensation was $13.2 million.

At the higher end, Oracle co-CEO Clayton Magouyrk received $627.5 million in 2025.

Equity could be worth far more

The annual figures do not capture the full wealth of founder CEOs, who can hold substantial equity in their companies.

Courtney Yu, director of research at executive compensation firm Equilar, told Reuters that Amodei’s $18 million package appeared relatively low for a company valued at $2 trillion.

Anthropic’s S-1 does not disclose the individual ownership stakes of its founders. Those holdings could be worth billions depending on the eventual IPO valuation.

Amodei and the company’s other six co-founders have pledged to dedicate 80 per cent of their personal Anthropic equity to charitable causes.

Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao received $720,250 in 2025 and was granted options to buy 1.4 million shares when he joined in 2024.
