The Congress called for immediate accountability into the “serious lapses” in security and intelligence in one of the most heavily guarded areas of the nation and urged the Center to take firm action in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack to punish Pakistan for its ongoing export of terror.
The claims were made by the opposition party in a resolution approved by the Congress Working Committee (CWC), which was presided over by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by general secretaries Jairam Ramesh, K C Venugopal, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, as well as former Congress presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
The entire nation is waiting for justice, accountability, and answers. The Congress feels that now is a time for national resolution, togetherness, and strength rather than politics in the face of such an unacceptable provocation.
“We must rise above partisan divides and send out an unambiguous message that India stands together, and will not be broken,” the resolution stated.
This is an opportunity to show “our collective will as a nation to teach Pakistan a lesson and curb terrorism decisively,” the Congress added.
There must be full repercussions for the masterminds and perpetrators of this despicable crime. In order to punish and isolate Pakistan for its ongoing export of terror into our country, the Congress calls on the Indian government to act with international coordination, strategic clarity, and toughness,” the resolution stated.
The Congress also demanded that the families of the 26 people killed in the Pahalgam incident on April 22—the majority of whom were vacationers—receive ongoing institutional and moral support.
Compensation is insufficient on its own. The party stated that honoring the memories of those lost through civic commemoration and national acknowledgment, as well as providing long-term rehabilitation and mental health care, are equally important.
In one of the most closely guarded areas of the nation, the CWC reiterated its previous call for “time-bound accountability” into the “serious lapses” in security and intelligence.
The party said that the Indian people deserved accountability and openness.
The resolution declared, “The CWC stands in solidarity and support with the 26 families who lost loved ones in the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam.”
“The nation as a whole suffers from the suffering of these families. It further stated, “The CWC stands with them, not just in words but in unwavering solidarity.”
The CWC also restated its call for all citizens to maintain their unity, composure, and resolve.
“Let our response to this act of terror reflect the strength of our democracy, the depth of our unity, and the resilience of our Republic,” the opposition party stated.
