The White House stated that Colombia backed down and agreed to accept returning citizens on military flights after Donald Trump threatened major consequences.

Washington, USA:
Following President Donald Trump’s threat of major fines, Colombia decided to accept returning citizens aboard military flights, according to the White House. Colombia did not immediately confirm the White House’s claim that it will suspend most tariffs and sanctions against Latin America’s fourth largest economy.

Colombia has agreed to “unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia returned from the United States, including on US military aircraft, without limitation or delay,” according to a White House statement.

“Today’s events make clear to the world that America is respected again,” according to the statement.

“President Trump will continue to fiercely protect our nation’s sovereignty, and he expects all other nations of the world to fully cooperate in accepting the deportation of their citizens illegally present in the United States.”

Colombian President Gustavo Petro, a socialist, enraged Trump by refusing to receive military jets carrying Colombians deported from the US.

He had previously stated that he would take back refugees “with dignity,” including on civilian flights.
