During a panel at the Red Sea Film Festival 2025 in Saudi Arabia, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan candidly discussed her career decisions. She claimed that she has never let insecurity or anxiety affect the movies she chooses. After winning Miss World, Aishwarya started her acting career in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film Iruvar. She talked about how this choice shaped her desire to perform in movies.
She clarified that a lot of individuals in her immediate vicinity expected her to make decisions based on industry pressure, timing, or excitement. Even if they weren’t regarded as “big launches” or the most obvious next steps, she claimed that from the start, she picked movies that spoke to her.
Many people in her near area, she explained, expected her to make judgments based on industry pressure, timing, or excitement. She stated that from the beginning, she chose films that resonated with her, even if they weren’t considered “big launches” or the most obvious next steps.
“I don’t get insecure,” Aishwarya stated during her speech at the festival. That is a true part of who I am. Many voices around you can try to sneak into your thoughts and sometimes influence decisions, but insecurity has never been the motivating factor. I’ve never been like that. According to Times Now, “I exhibit clarity in all of my career choices, unknowingly but now in retrospect.”
She emphasized that Mani Ratnam had reminded her that Iruvar was about the story, not about presenting her, even in the early stages of her career, when many anticipated her to make a big movie debut. She claimed that this strategy was exactly how she intended to work.
Why, After Devdas, Did She Select Chokher Bali?
Aishwarya talked about the period following Devdas, which was a great hit. She remembered being asked what “big project” she would pick next. Rituparno Ghosh’s Chokher Bali was her choice rather than pursuing something bigger.
“I remember after Devdas, when you feel like a crescendo and people were like, ‘What’s the next big film after that?’ because how much bigger can it be than Devdas and I did Choker Bali with Rituparno Ghosh,” she stated, as reported by the news site. “What a lovely story, and that’s the movie I want to make,” I thought.
Her Words To Filmmakers
Aishwarya went on to say that she never made decisions based on following a predetermined course or being predictable. She expressed her gratitude for both the support she has received and her lengthy journey. She said that she hopes filmmakers will keep bringing her compelling stories and will be understanding if she declines a project because the screenplay doesn’t appeal to her.
What She’s Doing Right Now
Since the 2023 release of Ponniyin Selvan 2, Aishwarya has not signed a new movie. She still represents India in international film festivals and important fashion shows as of right now.
