As tensions between India and Pakistan reached their highest level in almost thirty years this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the three service chiefs once more on Friday.
India conducted airstrikes under Operation Sindoor on Wednesday targeting targets in Pakistan it claimed were “terrorist infrastructure” in retaliation for a two-week-old attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The Pahalgam attack claimed the lives of twenty-six persons.
The Indian Army reported today that they were “effectively repulsed” by Pakistan’s military, which used drones and other weapons to launch many raids along the whole western border on the intervening night of May 8–9.
According to defense authorities, Pakistani drone operations against Indian installations on Thursday were successfully thwarted thanks in large part to the locally produced Akash surface-to-air missile air defense system. Officials further stated that the missile system has been placed along the Pakistani border by the Indian Army and Air Force.
On the intervening nights of May 8 and 9, the Pakistani military launched numerous attacks along the whole Western Border using drones and other weapons. Along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistani forces also engaged in a number of ceasefire violations (CFVs). The drone attacks were successfully repelled, and the CFVs received a suitable response. The Indian Army is still dedicated to defending the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. The Army declared that “all evil schemes will be met with force.”
With the highest military leadership, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted a thorough assessment of the national security situation one day after Pakistan’s attempts to attack Indian military sites were foiled.
Another feature is that the Army Chief now has the authority to summon “every officer and every enrolled person” of the Territorial Army (TA) to provide necessary security or to be embodied to reinforce or supplement the regular Army. This authority comes from the national government.
In order to enable the heads of civil defense authorities to make the necessary purchases in the event of an emergency, the Center has also requested that all states grant them emergency procurement authority.
