Friday August 28, the airline celebrated airBaltic’s 31st anniversary marking three decades since establishment in 1995. At the same time, we celebrate another major milestone – carrying 70 millionth passenger since establishment.
Reaching 70 million passengers is a significant milestone in airBaltic’s history, reflecting the demand for air connectivity to and from the Baltic region. Through the years, airBaltic’s network has helped bring people closer, connecting the Baltics with destinations across Europe and beyond and making it easier for millions of passengers to reach the people, places and moments that matter most.
Behind every one of these journeys is a person, a purpose and a story – whether it was a long-awaited reunion with family and friends, an important business trip, the excitement of a holiday, the start of studies abroad, or simply the journey home.
Over the years, airBaltic has expanded its operations across Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, and wider Europe, while also building a network of partnerships with other airlines. This includes 26 codeshare partners, giving passengers the opprtunity to reach more than 200 destinations across the world.
airBaltic was established on 28 August 1995 through a joint venture agreement between the Latvian state and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). On 1 October 1995, the airline operated its first commercial flight from Riga to Stockholm using a 33-seat Saab SF340 aircraft.
airBaltic connects the Baltic States with more than 80 destinations across Europe and beyond, making travel easier, more accessible, and more convenient for customers across the region. The airline provides essential connectivity that supports tourism, business activity, and broader economic development.
