The Indian team’s decision to skip Sunday’s World Championship of Legends match versus Pakistan has sparked a heated discussion on social media over the two nations’ future athletic relations. Even though this was meant to be a match between retired cricket players from both nations, it obviously sets expectations for the present stars. Calls for a boycott have grown even though India and Pakistan only play each other in multi-team competitions.
Salman Butt, a former opening batsman for Pakistan, questioned the India Champions team’s decision to skip the match against Pakistan, which was led by Yuvraj Singh. When the two teams are set to play each other in an ICC event, Butt wanted the Indian side to pledge to keep the same position.
Such stories frequently become the talk of the town when India and Pakistan play cricket, but this isn’t always the case when other sporting events between the two nations are planned. Butt wants athletic contests between India and Pakistan to be banned, including at major competitions like the Olympics.
“Everyone is talking about them; what message have they delivered to the fans and to cricket in general? What do you want to demonstrate? What do you want to demonstrate? Now, don’t compete against us in any ICC tournament or the World Cup. Make a commitment. You see, we know that everything has a place. However, don’t compete against us at any level or competition now that you are interlinking. Not even the Olympics. Do it, please. I’d be thrilled to see. He stated on his YouTube channel, “I’d see how much nationalism they can show at that level, and the stakes would be high.”
The former Pakistani opener concluded by saying that, in his opinion, the WCL decision appeared to have been “pressured.”
“What kind of mentality is this? I simply don’t get it. This decision is being made by whom? Others who likely had the mentality to play felt under pressure because of those four or five individuals who chose not to play,” he continued.
