Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, is unlikely to be there for the two-day pink-ball warm-up match in Canberra beginning on November 30 after making an emergency trip back to India with family from Australia during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT).
Gambhir had to leave the Indian squad because of a personal situation, according to PTI. Prior to the second Test match against Australia in Adelaide, which begins on December 6, he will be joining the team. India’s 295-run victory in Perth has already put them ahead 1-0 in BGT.
According to information obtained, Gambhir requested permission from the BCCI to return. “He departed for India early on Tuesday morning with his family. It is a personal emergency that cannot be avoided. Before the second Test match begins, he will return to Adelaide,” a BCCI official told PTI.
The Indians will take Tuesday off before departing for Canberra on Wednesday (November 27) after winning the first Test in Perth in four days. The whole team is anticipated to attend a special reception with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra.
The Indian captain will lead his team against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra starting on November 30. Rohit Sharma is already in Australia after missing the first Test because of the birth of his baby child.
Young players make up the Prime Minister’s XI, and bowler Scott Boland is anticipated to face a full-strength Indian squad. The two teams will set the game’s rules, and since it won’t have an official status, it is anticipated that everyone will bat and ball.
