The Hebbal–KR Pura segment is scheduled to open a few months after the airport line, which is anticipated to start operating between June and September 2026.
According to Managing Director (MD) M Maheshwar Rao, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) intends to open the eagerly anticipated Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Terminal–Hebbal segment of the Blue Line by the middle of 2026.
Rao said the part is anticipated to be operational between June and September 2026, with the Hebbal–KR Pura segment following a few months later, most likely by December, according to a Moneycontrol story.
The decision is expected to benefit airport-bound passengers, who can travel to Hebbal and switch to the airport Metro line, bypassing toll taxes for road travel.
Regarding the Bettahalasur Metro station, discussions are ongoing with Embassy Group, which had signed an agreement in 2020 to fund its construction at an estimated cost of ₹140 crore, the report added.
The article claims that after canceling the earlier tenders for architectural finishing work for stations, BMRCL has not yet issued new ones. Additionally, civil work is moving slowly in Chikkajala and close to the IAF station in Yelahanka.
With a few exceptions, the Blue Line is mostly an elevated route. It consists of two brief underground sections, one at the Yelahanka Air Force Base (AFB) and one near the Jakkur Aerodrome, as well as an at-grade (surface) segment close to the airport. There are 30 stations on the line overall, and the two airport stations should be located at
The 2025 goal was not met
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated earlier this year that the administration wants to complete phase 2 of the Namma Metro project by 2025. Additionally, he had stated that he had instructed BMRCL officials to expedite the construction of the metro line along the airport route.
A new metro line
In the meantime, a new metro line that connects Sarjapur and Hebbal through the city center is scheduled to open in Bengaluru after being recently approved by the state Finance Department.
This will be Phase 3A of Namma Metro, a 36.59-kilometer route that will link Bengaluru’s north and south. According to the publication, officials stated that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be presented to the state cabinet by the end of this month.
