Brazil welcomes the highest number of British tourists since the 2014 FIFA World Cup

The number of British tourists visiting Brazil has increased by 11.61% between January and July 2026 in comparison to the same period in 2025, reaching 121,990. This is the second best result in the entire historical series, just behind 2014, when Brazil hosted the FIFA World Cup and 133,328 British tourists visited the country from January to July. In July alone, the growth was 14.19%, reaching 13,881 British tourists in comparison to 12,156 in July last year, the best result for the month since 2017. The data was released by Embratur with the Ministry of Tourism (MTur) and the Federal Police (PF).

The United Kingdom is the tenth largest source of tourists to Brazil and accounts for 11% of all arrivals from Europe within January and July 2026. The Brazilian destinations that have grown the most among British tourists during the period are outside the traditional circuit, with Pernambuco advancing by 184%, Rio Grande do Sul growing by 173%, and Pará increasing by 125%. Northeast Brazil welcomed 43.9% of the travellers, four times at the market rate.

“Hitting the highest number of British tourists since 2014 shows that Brazil has secured a permanent place in these travellers’ plans. The British seek cultural immersion and contact with nature, and find these two things in practically all Brazilian regions. It is that type of demand, built over time, that sustains the growth of international tourism”, says the president of Embratur/Visit Brasil, Bruno Reis.

British Airways and LATAM operate direct routes between the two countries, concentrated in London. From other British cities, European companies such as TAP, Air France, KLM and Swiss offer connections that extend the reach to Brazilian destinations not served by direct flights.
